Color of Change.org exists to strengthen Black America’s political voice. Their goal is to empower their members – Black Americans and their allies – to make government more responsive to the concerns of Black Americans and to bring about positive political and social change for everyone. According to its leading team, Hurricane Katrina made it clear that their lack of a political voice has life-and-death consequences. With no one to speak for them, hundreds of thousands of people – largely Black, poor, and elderly – were left behind to die. But it wasn’t just Black people. Poor, sick, and elderly people of every color were abandoned too. Their statement : “We are not alone, and when we work to protect Black lives and interests, we do the same for all who have been left behind in political silence”. Color Of Change.org is comprised of Black people from every economic class, as well as those of every color who seek to help their voices be heard. Their members are united behind a simple, powerful pledge: that they will do all they can to make sure all Americans are represented, served, and protected – regardless of race or class.
