A decade ago, Afghanistan had some television – the Taliban had banned it up until then – but today, thanks, in part, to the MOBY Group, Afghans have more television programming at their fingertips than ever before. Saad Mohseni, director of the MOBY Group, which owns multiple media brands in Afghanistan and is known as Afghanistan’s “first media mogul,” made a talk to genConnect at the Aspen Ideas Festival about the TV consumers in Afghanistan, how they are different and similar to those in the United States, the popularity of “The Voice” and entertainment mentorship, and how the MOBY Group is helping to push the envelope when it comes to cultural sensitivities in TV programming in Afghanistan.
