Como na maioria dos pa\u00edses, antes de ser reconhecido como uma altera\u00e7\u00e3o gen\u00e9tica em 1959, a esperan\u00e7a de uma pessoa com s\u00edndrome de Down vida era de apenas 15 anos. Hoje, 50 anos depois, a expectativa de vida subiu para quase 80 anos, quase igual \u00e0 expectativa de vida m\u00e9dia da popula\u00e7\u00e3o em geral no Brasil. Muitas vezes escondido da sociedade, sua defici\u00eancia \u00e9 tratada como um problema de sa\u00fade com poucas oportunidades de assimila\u00e7\u00e3o.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Com os avan\u00e7os da ci\u00eancia, a medicina moderna tem sido capaz de aliviar muitos dos problemas de sa\u00fade comumente associadas \u00e0 s\u00edndrome de Down. <em>Simone Berti<\/em> come\u00e7ou a primeira aula de culin\u00e1ria em 2006 e lan\u00e7ado oficialmente<em> Chefs Especiais<\/em> em janeiro de 2012, quando formou o instituto. Ela mobiliza recursos e uma combina\u00e7\u00e3o de elementos espec\u00edficos para criar um ambiente de aprendizagem e de festa para os alunos. Atualmente, <em>Chefs Especiai<\/em>s tem quatro funcion\u00e1rios e trinta e cinco volunt\u00e1rios.
