CHAIRMAN OLBIOS INTERNATIONAL ADVISORY BOARD

Marco van der Ree has 25 years of experience dedicated to bringing people and organizations together to achieve sustainable development. As Chair of the International Advisory Board, he sees OLBIOS as a prominent global collective that accelerates collaboration for the common good.

He is the founder of Brokering Solidarity through which he has built on his passion and experience to achieve sustainable societies, creating opportunities for participation and volunteer engagement, building multi stakeholder partnerships, fundraising, advocacy, and biodiversity and climate action. 

Marco has spent 17 years with a number of UN organizations – UNCDF, UNDP, UNOPS and UN Volunteers. In his as role as Chief Partnerships for UNV he co-organized the 64th UNDPI Conference -Sustainable Societies; Responsive Citizens, and he led the global Volunteer Action Counts campaign for Rio+20 that counted 64 million volunteer actions for sustainable development. The campaign was mentioned by the UN Secretary General in his Rio+20 report to the UN General Assembly.

In recent years he fulfilled executive roles with Europe’s leading climate innovation organization EIT Climate-KIC, the foremost global corporate sustainability reporting standard setter the Global Reporting Initiative, and The Nature Conservancy in Latin America. With Brokering Solidarity, Marco engaged with the Collaborating Centre on Sustainable Consumption and Production, SwissAid, GiZ, Fundacion Avina, and was senior international evaluator of the Amazon Fund, and co-founder of a start-up on volunteer engagement for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Marco holds a Masters in International Relations from the University of Amsterdam with a focus on international environmental policy. He has worked globally and lived in Brazil, Germany, Mozambique, the Netherlands, Spain and the USA and speaks Dutch, English, German, Spanish and Portuguese.

Besides chairing the OLBIOS International Advisory Board, Marco also chairs the Board of the Green Light District foundation in Amsterdam, is a Board member with the NGO Conexsus in Brazil, and Advisory Board member with KCIC Consulting Limited in Kenya and the Global Forest Bond in Brazil.
