ATTILA MESTER

OLBIOS CORRESPONDENT HUNGARY

Attila Mester is an expert in social innovation and community-based sustainable development. He has a background in cultural and visual anthropology, public policy, project management and community building with 15 years of experience in the civil sector, contributing to social, cultural, community, sustainability and Roma projects for several organizations. He is one of the founders of Profilantrop Association, which integrates environmental, social and economic aspects of sustainability in its projects, combined with real life practical solutions and technologies. One of the main successes of Profilantrop is a charity shop in Budapest called Filantrópia. It has multiple benefits, such as the reduction of waste and the creation of an opportunity for less wealthy people to buy products. It also serves as a meeting point for the community and in the future might even be in a position to finance the rural community projects of the Association. In his professional work, Attila prefers to co-create solutions together in a partnership with those who are affected by the problems, respecting and incorporating each others’ contribution, values, experiences, knowledge, cultural background and worldview. Diversity is an important concept for him, not only in the sense of natural or cultural diversity but also in terms of task variety such as facilitating community processes, building fuel-efficient stoves, teaching IT solutions, managing projects, organizing events, giving presentations and holding training sessions.
