FIRST stands for, ‘For Inspiration and Recognition in Science and Technology.’ The mission of the organization is to inspire leaders in science and engineering by sponsoring a variety of mentor-based programs. Many people have heard of FIRST because they facilitate robotics building and competitions. Their mission is to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs. These programs inspire innovation and foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership. Founder Dean Kamen is an inventor, entrepreneur, and tireless advocate for science and technology. His passion and determination to help young people discover the excitement and rewards of science and technology are the cornerstones of FIRST.
