Ghana-born James Kofi Anan, a child slave himself, established his dream, Challenging Heights, as a registered organization in 2005. The mission of his organization is to prevent child trafficking, reduce child slavery, and promote the rights of children. He has received many awards over the years, recognizing the value of his work in keeping our most precious resources safe.
From the age of 6 to 16, James Kofi Annan was indeed enslaved, starved, abused and forced to work in appalling conditions. After managing to escape and turning his life around, he was determined to prevent other children from experiencing the same thing. His organization actively not only rescues and rehabilitates children from slavery, but also identifies and educates vulnerable children and empowers youth and families to help prevent child trafficking.
