At the forefront of the African Tech ecosystem is social entrepreneur, Judith Owigar, co-founder of  AkiraChix  and founder of Juakali Workforce, Owigar uses her time and resources to nurture and develop women in tech in Africa.

AkiraChix is a not for profit organisation that aims to inspire and develop a successful force of women in technology who could change Africa’s future. Founded in 2010, AkiraChix aims to be the leading women’s network impacting technology in Africa. It’s programs are developed to reach young women at different levels, those in Primary School, High School and University, those working in technology and those who wish to have a career in technology, making it an effectively wholesome program.

Juakali Workforce was founded to create livelihood opportunities for youth working in Kenya’s informal sector and revolutionize standards of service quality for consumers. JuaKali connects skilled manual workers to clients on demand through an online environment.

Through these social enterprises, Owigar has helped to propel both women and children, into careers in science, technology, engineering, and math. She has also taken a hand in addressing the growing youth unemployment rate in Kenya. Owigar has been listed as one of CNN’s African Voices’ “10 African Tech Voices to Follow”
