The Melody School is a pre-school and early elementary school for Mayan children ranging from ages two to seven years old who have the opportunity at earning an education. This is a private school for children in the region; many of whom are living in poverty or extreme poverty. These children have the rare chance of going to school because of Project Chaq’laxel and Canadian sponsors through the organisation Medicos en Accion (Doctors in Action) which is based in British Columbia. Most of the children were having trouble with their studies and reading, since the majority of their parents are illiterate and unable to help them with their studies at home. They receive aid with English classes, group activities, math, preparing the Mother’s Day play, and other various tasks. Teachers said they are touched at the high level of happiness among these children : they constantly wore smiles, are eager to play games, and treat each other as siblings.
